WHEELIE Z RAIL SESION!

This sunday I got the opportunity to photograph Peter Fitts (wheelie team rider) and friends! When Peter called me asking me to come and take photos of him doing a hand rail that he had set up the night before I had no idea the difficultly of the rail he was about to attempt!

When we got the the location and I saw the rail I just kept thinking "peter has lost his mind" haha. But seriously this rail was gnarly, about half way through the rail it had a TURN! The photo above

doesn't do the rail justice. But you get the idea this rail is not for the faint of heart.

The photo to the on the side shows my set up for the photos I shot. 2 sb900s on stands one that will shoot from behind and another filling from the front. Pretty simple set up but it got the job

done.

So we got all set up, run in all salted up for extra speed photographer and videographer (Dan Clayton) all ready to go. And the skiers started to test speed. One speed test for peter was enough. Then Pete went for it!!

"GREASED IT" First try! Peter is so sick! and the shot turned out pretty good too!

Peter and friends did the rail a few more times and I got a bunch of sweet shots. The shot above was pretty scary for me because they kept coming off the rail and landing right where I was standing. So I would take the shot then literally run for my life to avoid getting landed on. But it was worth it cause I loved the way the shots turned out.

Portfolio

So, I have been shooting and editing pictures pretty much constantly for the last couple of weeks. Trying to get myself a decent portfolio together, So far my experience with creating my portfolio has been a slow hard and one. I don't feel as though my work is as good as I want it to be for my portfolio, the reason I want it to be so good is because I want this to be my very best work, work that I could show to possible employers. Recently I have been hoping that I could find a small internship for a photographer in the the action sports industry, or even a job for a local wedding photographer. So In this blog I am going to put a few of my pictures that I am considering adding to my portfolio and I am hoping that I can get some feedback on what everyone thinks about my work and hopefully get some good suggestions.

HDR's

For about the last week or so I have been learning how to shoot HDR's ( High Dynamic Range) which is basically 3 pictures taken at different apertures and then put together to make one image with really awesome light and detail. Most of what I have learned about these is from my friend Gage who recently graduated from the hallmark school of photography. You can see his work at http://www.gagethompson.com/. In this blog I will show my first HDR up to an HDR that I took last night so you can see what I have learned and see how great HDR's are. HDR's have opened a new page in photography for me and I have been loving them so check it out.

This is my first HDR... not so great but alright.
This is the next HDR that I took a few days later. Much better in my opinion.
